Architects Australia after its success in providing a development solution for other properties owned by the Spanish Rail Authority (RENFE), was invited to provide a design solution for the redevelopment of the old central rail station property in Barcelona. The design solution needed to sensitively incorporate existing heritage buildings on the site into a scheme which provided extensive office accommodation for RENFE, as well as a 400 room international standard hotel. A large model of the proposed development was shipped from Architects Australia to RENFE and stood for many years in their foyer in Madrid.
